Standing Committees
Standing Committees are important institutional mechanisms that examine matters relating to various administrative, development and welfare sectors of the Municipality. They assist the Council in planning, implementation and monitoring of programmes and submit recommendations on relevant matters.
1.Public Works Standing Committee
The Committee plays an important role in the planning and supervision of construction, repair and maintenance of roads, drainage systems, culverts, bridges, public buildings and other public infrastructure.
2.Development Affairs Standing Committee
The Committee examines the annual plans and development programmes of the Municipality, identifies priorities in infrastructure, economic and social development sectors, and reviews the progress of various projects.
3.Health Affairs Standing Committee
The Committee provides supervision and coordination in areas such as public health, sanitation, waste management, communicable disease control and environmental sanitation.
4.Welfare Standing Committee
The Committee examines the planning and implementation of welfare programmes for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, women, children and economically disadvantaged sections of society. It also deals with social security programmes, housing initiatives and rehabilitation activities.
5.Education–Arts–Sports Standing Committee
The Committee provides leadership in areas such as development of infrastructure in educational institutions, student welfare, educational awareness, sports training, competitions and development of playgrounds and sports facilities.
6.Finance Standing Committee
The Committee examines the municipal budget, revenue and expenditure accounts, tax and non-tax revenues and financial transactions. It provides recommendations for efficient utilisation of financial resources and maintenance of financial discipline.
